A coalition of farmers, scientists, and researchers with the goal of defining and increasing sustainability of U.S. peanut production
What is sustainability?
Sustainable peanut production is an integrated system of production practices that over the long term will make the most efficient use of nonrenewable resources, enhance environmental and natural resource quality, sustain economic viability, and contribute to global food supply— enhancing the quality of life for farmers and society as a whole. The Peanut Sustainability Partnership focuses on water, soil, energy use, and land use efficiency indicators to define and measure peanut sustainability, ultimately improving economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
Rigorous farm level implementation of sustainable practices, and USDA verification of these practices, has resulted in the Certified Sustainable Peanut label. When consumers see this label, they can trust that U.S. grown peanuts are produced with these sustainability values in mind.
We are Grower Led.
Peanut farmers are at the center of what we do. Over 100 peanut growers have voluntarily provided production data annually, our steering committee consists of at least 50% peanut farmers, and the partnership focuses on providing information and resources directly to farmers. Peanut production spans across 12 southwestern and southeastern states in the U.S., valued at over $1.1 billion annually.
